"Make sure render mode is set to Vertex for Unity 4.x or Legacy/Vertex for Unity 5.x. This will give you a big boost of speed. Do NOT use PBR shaders in Unity 5. They don't work, and can crash the tablet. Turn V-Sync on! This is a bit of a counter-intuitive step. My personal experience is that having V-Sync off results in extremely jerky, rough movement of objects. Having V-Sync turned on (which it is off by default for Android) smooths out your movement. Don't be fooled by the 14 FPS. Full screen doesn't like to run higher than that, but you still have a lot of triangles left. I pushed it up to 35 draw calls and 82k triangles before dropping down to 13 FPS. That was pure rendering though, no game logic or physics. If you need to push the FPS higher than 14 FPS, you'll need to follow the tips in @Tiziano 's post to reduce the render size."
